Although September 21 is officially the first day of fall, most people tend to think of Labor Day weekend as the official end of summer, me included! So now I start to think of all things fall. Time to put away the summer décor and start thinking of pumpkins, fall foliage, and colored corn. I’m pretty traditional in decorating for this season. I know that most people jump into Halloween but I tend to use the lighter side of fall and Halloween décor. I like Jack-O-lanterns, black cats (obviously), corn stalks and pumpkins but I stay away from the darker side of the holiday/season and never decorate with witches, ghosts, goblins, and such. It’s a personal preference and a choice I make based on my beliefs as a Christian. I don’t frown upon or judge others and what they do, but I do feel that I have to be true to myself and my belief system in what I present in my home. The little painting below visually sums up my idea of decorating for this season and I’m sharing it with you as a free pattern. Just click on the pumpkin below to open up the PDF file that will give you the instructions, materials list, step by step photos, and a traceable pattern to paint this scarecrow. Over the years (I designed this fellow back in 2002) I have painted this little fellow on switchplates, roof slates to hang outside my door as a welcome, a tray to serve trick or treat candies on, and even a table runner.

What a cute scarecrow! I am still in Fall denial so haven't even started to think about decorating yet. Thanks for sharing on Tout It Tuesday! Hope to see you tomorrow.

Hi Sheryl! I love Fall...the colors...the smells....the crisp air (not icy, just right)

You're obviously a kindred spirit! Fall rocks! It's just too short! I wish it was about 6 months long!

Sweet scarecrow! Fall is my favorite time of the year.

My favorite too! Everything about it....the foliage colors, the crisp air, the crunch of the fallen leaves as you walk through them. For us it's a busy season as there is a long winter that we have to prepare for with anticipation of lots of snow, and nights that can get to -25F.

I'm not letting summer go until the 21st!

It's hard to ignore the coming fall here. The temp is going down into the 40's at night now and you can just see the leaves are beginning to start the color change process. Here in Aroostook County, Maine, we have our peak fall foliage the last week of September and the leaves are pretty much gone by and dropping from the trees by Columbus Day. Fall comes fast here and summer is way to short.
